Our Style . . .

In the early morning chill the mules are hitched to the hunting wagon. Meanwhile, you have enjoyed coffee and orange juice brought to your bedside and then a hearty Southern breakfast. Preparations for the day's hunt are under the watchful eyes of your hosts and the staff. The excitement of the dogs as they are loaded on the wagon raises the heart rate and anticipation of what lies ahead. With the dogs all aboard, the entire caravan heads for the hunting area. It won't be long before you discover that the traditions of plantation-style quail hunting makes it unlike any other kind of hunting. After the dogs are turned loose, the entire mounted party follows until one of the dogs goes on point. At a signal from the driver, two hunters dismount, load their guns and approach the pointing dog. After the covey flushes, the hunters look for "singles" in the classic "walk-up" style. Each hunting guest is given the option of hunting from the mule-drawn wagon, from horseback, or one of the specially rigged trucks.

style_photo.jpgAshburn Hill is a private hunting preserve so guests are provided a shooting preserve licesnse while hunting on the plantation. In this way, Ashburn Hill maintains its distinction as a "hunting preserve" rather than a "shooting preserve." You will be aware of the conspicuous absence of spent shotgun shells on the ground. The guides and handlers meticulously recover all shell casing to maintain a pristine hunting atmosphere. Nowhere else will the dedicated wing shooter find the unique combination of comfort, tradition, ambiance, and down right excellent hunting. No effort or expense has been spared to ensure that you enjoy the quail hunting experience of a lifetime. And at the end of the hunting day you'll have time to relax, clean up and enjoy the open bar before dinner. Dinner at Ashburn Hill is a special occasion with incredibly delicious meal served up "ala Deep South." Afterwards, guests may enjoy a glass of port and a good cigar with your hosts and the other guests and have the opportunity to reminisce about the day's hunt.
