How to Sport the Retro Style

Sport the Retro StyleRetro is generally defined as the style that is outdated or outmoded and yet trendy and fashionable. Today, the retro style is still prominent in many areas including fashion. Retro fashion involves wearing clothes that were used in the past. People who follow the retro style often combine old accessories and garments with modern clothing. Among the most common stuff that they use with current clothing are leather handbags from the 1950′s, huge sunglasses, funky jackets, chiffon scarves, fedoras, tiny neckties, and bell-bottom jeans. Most women even wear bright red lipstick and heavy eye make-up to keep up with this trend while men wear their hair in ponytails, ducktails, and with pompadours.

If you want to sport the retro style, the first thing you need to do is to go shopping. Get rid of clothes that you think you will no longer need and allot space for new ones. Ask your parents, aunts, uncles, and even your grandparents if they still have some of their clothes from the 1940′s or 1950′s. If you did not have any luck finding used stuff, do not despair yet. You can always go to shops and stores to search for clothes that will fit your retro style. Go for tunic tops, waistcoats, mini skirts, smock tops, full skirts, chunky accessories or jewelries, pumps, and swing cardigans.

In addition, you must remember that lively and bright colors such as green, lilac, orange, blue, and pink go best with the retro style. If you have a pair of bootleg jeans, skinny jeans, or flare jeans in blue or black, you should get tunics and piniafores. Wear these pieces over your tight fitting jeans. Then again, jeans are not your only option. You may also wear a pair of leggings under your tunics and piniafores. Such leggings may be plain or patterned. Moreover, to be able to sport the retro style fabulously, you have to become wild. Do not stick with your comfort level when it comes to dressing up. Try wearing a fitted black waistcoat over a colorful tunic to really stand out.

Then, you can also wear crop trousers with a pair of nice, black pumps. This retro style is ideal for going to an evening party, movie date, or any casual event. For your make-up, you wear a thin eyeliner and light eye shadow. You can also wear a little bit of lip gloss or petroleum jelly on your lips. As for your hair accessory, a ribbon or a head scarf will suffice. You can tie your hair back with either of this, but you need to leave it down. Keep your hair long and natural to be able to sport the retro style. Read the rest of this entry »
